Beyonce Knowles says ‘Bow Down Bitches’….Good for her or too much?

Anyone who has an interest in music knows that Beyonce Knowles is a force to be reckoned with. She started out with the hit girl group by the name Destiny’s Child and then branched out into a solo career. She has won numerous Grammys (I think seventeen till now) and being in her early thirty’s, we can be sure that she will be around for years to come. People everywhere are anxiously waiting for her return after an announcement about her world tour; The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour was made at the Super Bowl this year. I thought of writing this post because of the two snippets she released a few days ago titled ‘Bow Down/ I Been On’ and these snippets (released as one) have caused quite a stir amongst the fans as well as critics. Some of them love the track; some are on the fence, while some don’t like it at all. Most of the confusion is regarding the song ‘Bow Down’ which I will be looking at below.

Bow Down

Okay, I heard the snippet like three days ago and I have to say that it wasn’t what I was expecting from Queen Bee. I was quite surprised to listen to the lyrics that go somewhat like this: ‘Bow Down Bitches/ Bow down Bitches’ and we get to hear Beyonce telling her competition that she knows they want to take her spot since they were little girls and that her contemporaries in the business better watch out because the queen in back.

Now, I don’t have a problem with this track. I feel that when you at the top you can boast about it if you want. There are many other singers out there who sing about how great they are even when they haven’t sold as much music. So, why can’t singers, who we all know are great, sing about the same stuff as well? Why can’t they say that they have sold millions and the rest of the singers better watch out because they are back in the game?

I sometimes feel that people just want to rant on the internet. If Beyonce released a song that was similar to what we have already heard, they would argued that she should change, and if she released something different, like ‘Bow Down’, they would say that they liked her previous style better. No one can please everyone in the world. The most a singer can do is release a track he or she is happy with and hope everything goes well.

Scrapping her Album

Now, there’s a rumor going around that the mixed reception of her snippet has made Beyonce and her team, rethink about the tracks on her album and this will delay the release of it as well. I think that the rumor is ‘bull sh*t’. Do you really feel that she would scrap her whole album because a snippet didn’t gel well with the audience? Have you all forgotten ‘Run the World’? That song wasn’t a chart topper either but she had faith in it and that didn’t alter the course she was on with the album.

As far as I know, Bow Down was released to cause a stir and it sure did. The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour is almost on us and she wanted to publicize it. She wanted to tell the world that she is back and her competition better look out. That’s what the new snippet was meant to do and it did just that. There was no mention of a new Beyonce album before the tour. I knew that we would be getting on mid-way into the tour or even after that. Those who thought that she would release an album, just one month before her tour, need to reevaluate how they think and see how proper marketing works.

Beyonce isn’t the one that would release singles just for the sake of making a chart topper by using the same formula other singers use. Her album ‘4’ didn’t have any chart topper because they didn’t fall under what people wanted. The songs had lyrics and powerful vocals. They didn’t have the same ‘electronic beats’ etc that are common in chart toppers. She wanted to bring a proper album to her fans and that’s what she did with ‘4’. If you want to listen to her vocals, then that’s the album for you.

So, just sit back and enjoy. Take comfort in the fact that Beyonce Knowles is a perfectionist and we all know that she will take over the music world with her tour and verify her claim on the throne with her new album. People who are speaking against her and her music are people who will always say such things no matter what she releases.

They might now like the song ‘Bow Down’, even some of the fans might not like it. But we know that Queen Bee will return in full Sasha Fierce mode and her competition better ‘Bow Down’.
